Job Description

Teacher of Languages (French, Spanish & Italian) - fixed term until 29/06/2027
Broughton High School

Salary: £35,022 - £52,740 (pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 22.92 per week

Working pattern for position is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Broughton High School is founded on the values of respect, inclusion and integrity. We have high aspirations for our young people and believe that together we achieve more. Located to the north of Edinburgh's City Centre, our school building is a superb example of modern architecture: its appearance inspires those who learn and work here, and it operates very effectively as a learning environment.

Broughton fully integrates and embraces three specialist provisions into the life and work of the school: the Edinburgh Music School, the SFA Performance School and the Specialist Dance Unit.

We believe in enabling every young person to fulfil their potential as an individual and as a member of their wider community. We emphasise the importance of excellent teaching and learning and strive to deliver flexible learning pathways that meet the needs of all young people.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Teacher to join our thriving Modern Languages team on a temporary basis. You will be well supported by a collaborative and forward-thinking faculty committed to ensuring success in learning for all.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.

About the Team

As an employee of the City of Edinburgh Council, benefits on offer include support with working flexibly, savings on the high street and at home (childcare vouchers, premium benefits card) and travel savings (bike to work, season ticket loan).
